Ancient political philosophy, history, and drama emphasizing the comparison of ancient and modern democracy and the alternative ancient understanding of the conception of the individual and of society. Readings from Plato, Sophocles, Aristophanes, and Thucydides. Instruction is provided in two lectures and one small discussion meeting each week. One course.
