Rule of Law
An investigation, employing both historical and conceptual analysis, of the idea of the rule of law. Several classic and contemporary texts will be considered. Topics include: the nature of law; the relationship between law and morality; the relationship between the rule of law and politics; the role, if any, of the rule of law in facilitating social and economic development; and the ways in which the rule of law might be institutionalized in modern society. Permission of instructor required. One course / 3 units.
