Dissent, Disobedience and Revolution

Examines boundaries of democratic practice – including hate speech, protest, and secession. Key topics in democratic theory will be addressed including scholarly debates over free speech, civil disobedience, and justified revolution. Readings include works by Mill, Locke, Waldron, Buchanan, Cristiano, Elster. One course / 3 units.
