Evaluation of the social science literature on the causes of war. Focus on theoretical and empirical works, using a variety of research strategies. Application of prominent theories of war to the analysis of several case studies. Course objectives: identification of strengths and weaknesses of the literature concerning the causes of war: definition of specific questions and issues for future research; and application of knowledge of causes of war to historical case studies.
