Margaret J. Foster is a second-year student in SPC, studying militant organizations and transnational insurgencies with a particular emphasis on how participation in transnationally-networked insurgencies impacts both constituent groups and local conflict processes.  She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 with a BA in International Relations and received a masters degree in Political Science from McGill University in 2011.  Before coming to Duke, she was a senior analyst at the SITE Intelligence Group, a research organization that monitors propaganda released by global jihadi organizations and which studies the virtual networks that have developed to connect al-Qaeda's supporters and affiliates.
