Are Things Getting Better? The Question of Progress in World Affairs

Course explores a fundamental question for students of world affairs across several disciplines: are governments and their respective societies making progress in building a more peaceful, democratic, and prosperous global order? Objectives: students will learn how debate among scholars on a fundamental question contributes to the constitution and development of several disciplines; how scholars undertake debates and thus be better prepared to assess and contribute to them; and how to frame research questions and to write a research paper that ties into and contributes to a larger inter-disciplinary dialogue.
