Intellectual History and Political Theory


Overview of current and historical approaches to intellectual history and the history of political thought, elucidating their theoretical foundations. Discussion of the major problems involved in the study of texts, ideas and culture and the vocabulary used by historians and political theorists. Readings in the classics of the field from Huizinga, Lovejoy, Febvre and Strauss to Skinner, Pocock and Bourdieu. Focus on joint projects of historians and political theorists. Instructor: Hacohen
