Study of theories in economics, political science, and law to examine the structure, conduct, and performance of U.S. regulatory agencies. Emphasis on why decisions are delegated to agencies, the degree to which regulators behave strategically, and the impact of regulatory actions on society. Focus on political and economic roots of scientific and technological debates in regulatory policy. Required research paper on origins and effectiveness of a particular regulation. Instructor: Staff
