Benjamin Broman is a Ph.D. candidate in the Political Economy and Political Institutions subfields. He studies how political leaders emerge, elicit compliance, and are challenged. As an applied game theorist, he uses formal models alongside statistical methods and archival research to examine the mechanisms and limitations of various strategies of political control. His current projects focus on the origins and implications of indirect rule, the intersection of religion and politics, and the emergence of judiciaries.
