Pawel Charasz is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) at the Department of Political Science at Duke University, specializing in political economy and political methodology. He is also a pre-doctoral Fellow with the Program for Advanced Research in the Social Sciences (PARISS) at the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI) of Duke University. Pawel’s research interests are in comparative politics, political economy, and economic history. In his work, he studies the long-run effects of institutions and political processes on economic and political development, with an emphasis on cities and municipalities. His dissertation explores the role of historical city charters in promoting development.
