Explores ongoing controversies about the influence of liberalism and republicanism on American conceptions of citizenship, whether American individualism threatens civic duty, whether civil disobedience is justified, whether there are certain values and experiences that all American citizens should share, and whether national identities are relevant in an increasingly global world.
