Institutions and Self Governance

This course examines the historical and contemporary development of institutions in self-governing communities and societies across the globe. Students will explore how institutions address collective action problems, ensure social security, maintain political stability, and promote economic prosperity. Topics include mutual aid associations, credit systems, public security measures, conflict resolution methods, and collective decision-making processes in both Western and Eastern societies. Through comparative analysis, students will gain a deeper understanding of the role of institutions in different cultural contexts and their impact on societal development.
