Men and Women: Theory, Politics, and Life Together

POLSCI 218

Much is said today about toxic masculinity, but what does healthy masculinity look like? There is a lively conversation about the possibility of providing a definition for the term 'woman', yet public discourse surrounding women's rights persists. This discussion-based seminar will explore femininity, masculinity, and what it means to be a good man or woman. Topics will include the transition from childhood to man/womanhood, aggression, the pay gap, gender and work in a modern economy, dating, marriage, parenthood, the household, the 'masculinity crisis' in the west, female autonomy and the legacy of the women's liberation movement, and the changing politics of the sexes in America today.
