Political Economy of Development


Course provides an overview of advanced contemporary research on the political economy of development. Students will work through growth models and attempt to map them onto broader debates in the political economy of development - debates surrounding the impact of institutions, historical legacies, inequality, natural resources, trade, ethnic heterogeneity, foreign aid and the like on prospects for economic development. Extensive use of field and natural-experiments to identify the key instruments of development. Instructor: Wibbels
