Cancelled: B&I Workshop: Yanna Krupnikov (Michigan)

February 12, -
Yanna Krupnikov (Michigan) will present "How We See Each Other: Perceptions Across the Political Divide."

Abstract:
A good deal of both, news and scholarly attention has centered on partisan divisions in America. Part of this research has focused on perceptions, and the role of mis- and meta-perceptions in shaping people's feelings about both their own and the opposing political side. Given increasing interest in interventions to shift (mis)perceptions, we re-consider the role and origins of mis- and meta-perceptions of the other side. In particular, we theorize the possibility that perceptions may be less errors, but rather a potentially more deliberate means of simplifying politics. We begin to consider this possibility through a set of surveys fielded prior to the 2024 election.
