The Science of Politics

POLSCI 102

Why and how is political science a science? This course introduces students to the scientific study of the political world. Students are introduced to a broad set of questions and topics that political scientists work on. Students will learn how political scientists build theories, generate hypotheses, and test hypotheses with quantitative and qualitative data. And students will have an opportunity to apply their knowledge as political scientists do—by critiquing scientific research; proposing and testing original hypotheses; and using theory and evidence from the class as a basis for making policy recommendations.
